Chapter 18 -  The endeavor for Liberation - Slokas - 33, 34, 35.


धृत्या यया धारयते मनःप्राणेन्द्रियक्रियाः ।
योगेनाव्यभिचारिण्या धृतिः सा पार्थ सात्त्विकी ॥ १८-३३॥

यया तु धर्मकामार्थान्धृत्या धारयतेऽर्जुन ।
प्रसङ्गेन फलाकाङ्क्षी धृतिः सा पार्थ राजसी ॥ १८-३४॥

यया स्वप्नं भयं शोकं विषादं मदमेव च ।
न विमुञ्चति दुर्मेधा धृतिः सा पार्थ तामसी ॥ १८-३५॥

dhri’tyaa yayaa dhaarayate manah’praanendriyakriyaah’ ।
yogenaavyabhichaarinyaa dhri’tih’ saa paartha saattvikee ॥ 18-33 ॥

yayaa tu dharmakaamaarthaandhri’tyaa dhaarayate’rjuna ।
prasangena phalaakaankshee dhri’tih’ saa paartha raajasee ॥ 18-34 ॥

yayaa svapnam bhayam shokam vishaadam madameva cha ।
na vimunchati durmedhaa dhri’tih’ saa paartha taamasee ॥ 18-35 ॥

The resolve by which maintains the operations of the mind, breath and senses steady through conjunction, that resolve, hey Partha is of the satinless constitution.

The resolve, which is maintains the observance, with desire for acquisitions , hey Arjuna, and expecting immediet results, that resolve is of passionate constitution.

That stupid resolve which does not let go the dream, fear, sorrow, lassitude and conciet, hey Partha, is of the ignorant constitution.

Those who gave thee a body, furnished it with weakness; but He who gave thee Soul, armed thee with resolution. Employ it, and thou art wise; be wise and thou art happy. - Akhenaton
