Chapter 18 - The endeavor for Liberation - Slokas - 23, 24, 25.
नियतं सङ्गरहितमरागद्वेषतः कृतम् ।
अफलप्रेप्सुना कर्म यत्तत्सात्त्विकमुच्यते ॥ १८-२३॥
यत्तु कामेप्सुना कर्म साहङ्कारेण वा पुनः ।
क्रियते बहुलायासं तद्राजसमुदाहृतम् ॥ १८-२४॥
अनुबन्धं क्षयं हिंसामनपेक्ष्य च पौरुषम् ।
मोहादारभ्यते कर्म यत्तत्तामसमुच्यते ॥ १८-२५॥
niyatam sangarahitamaraagadveshatah’ kri’tam ।
aphalaprepsunaa karma yattatsaattvikamuchyate ॥ 18-23 ॥
yattu kaamepsunaa karma saahankaarena vaa punah’ ।
kriyate bahulaayaasam tadraajasamudaahri’tam ॥ 18-24 ॥
anubandham kshayam himsaamanapekshya cha paurusham ।
mohaadaarabhyate karma yattattaamasamuchyate ॥ 18-25 ॥
That assigned action which is performed without attacment and without like or dislike, wishing no result is said to be from the stainless constitution.
That action performed for self-gratification, with pride and again taking exesive stress upon oneself that is considered to be from the passionate constitution.
That action that is commenced with delusion without any regards for the consequences of loss and injury towards fellow humans is said to be from the ignorant constitution.
“Good works, because they must be forgotten instantly, can never become part of the world; they come and go, leaving no trace. They truly are not of this world.”
